Cape Girardeau businessman Warren S. Hastings, 79, 423 Silver Springs Road, died Sunday, July 19, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. Cape Girardeau businessman Warren S. Hastings, 79, 423 Silver Springs Road, died Sunday, July 19, 1992, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Sept. 27, 1912, in Cairo, Ill., son of Ira and Nettie McKeon Hastings. He married Earlean Forbey Sept. 30, 1933, at Farmington. She preceded him in death. He later married Imogene Graham July 5, 1986, in Cape Girardeau.

Hastings farmed at McClure and had a wholesale grocery business as a young man, followed by a contract trucking business. He owned Warren Hastings Motor Co. in Mounds, Ill., from 1949-56.

In 1955 he started Bumpa Tel Co., retiring in 1979. His sons now operate the business.

Hastings was a member of First Baptist Church and had been a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation Board, past president of Bald Knob Christian Foundation in Southern Illinois, and past president and past lieutenant governor of Kiwanis Club.

He received the national ADTSEA award from the National Teachers Association for driving education.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Steven and Lionel Ken Hastings of Cape Girardeau; two stepdaughters, Katherine Gilmore of Fenton, Carla LaGrone of Gordonville, and five grandchildren.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4:30-8 p.m. today.

Private entombment will be Wednesday at Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Rev. John Owen will officiate.
