CAIRO, Ill. -- Wardell Greer Sr., 78, of Cairo died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born Sept. 1, 1920, in Tiptonville, Tenn., son of Alvin and Katherine Donloc Greer. He and Ola Mae McClain were married in 1946...

CAIRO, Ill. -- Wardell Greer Sr., 78, of Cairo died Tuesday, July 13, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 1, 1920, in Tiptonville, Tenn., son of Alvin and Katherine Donloc Greer. He and Ola Mae McClain were married in 1946.

Greer was a farm laborer, retiring in 1972. He served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Eddie Greer of Moberly, Mo., Wardell Greer Jr. of Milwaukee, Wis., James Greer of Danville; eight daughters, Cora Wright, Luettha Watkins and Joyce Holder of Cairo, Maxine Davis of Mounds, Linda Martin of Indianapolis, Ind., Geralyn Mason of Sikeston, Mo., Charlotte Offord of Charleston, Mo., and Carolyn Kluttz of Jackson, Mo.

Also surviving are two sisters, Helen Douglas of Charleston, Willella Flowers of Cairo; 36 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call at Algee Memorial Chapel in Cairo from 6-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Klondike Holy Trinity Church of Deliverance. Bishop James Whitfield and Elder Larry Lee will officiate. Burial will be Monday in Mound City National Cemetery in Mound City.
