Wanda Lee Abbott, 82, of Jackson passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Oct. 14, 1930, in Cape Girardeau to Lewis Lee and Dessie Mae James Austin. She and Robert J. "Bob" Abbott were married Nov. 9, 1949, at St. Mary Cathedral in Cape Girardeau. They were married 53 years when Bob died July 12, 2003...

Wanda Lee Abbott, 82, of Jackson passed away Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 14, 1930, in Cape Girardeau to Lewis Lee and Dessie Mae James Austin. She and Robert J. "Bob" Abbott were married Nov. 9, 1949, at St. Mary Cathedral in Cape Girardeau. They were married 53 years when Bob died July 12, 2003.

Wanda was a homemaker and cooked many years at the former Starlite west of Jackson. She was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary, both in Jackson.

Loving survivors include two children, Jack L. (Jeanie) Abbott of Belleville, Ill., and Vickie S. (Mike) Webb of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Doug (Julie) Spooler of Cape Girardeau, Jessica (Jerry) Pickett of Jackson, John Abbott of O'Fallon, Ill., Jayme Abbott of St. Louis, Seth (Kristi) Webb of St. Louis, Michelle Webb of St. Louis, Amanda Webb of Tucson, Ariz., and Kasey Wagner of Belleville; and eight great-grandchildren, Cole, Camryn, Kearsten, Chase, Jacie, Blake, Sophie and Josephine.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Deacon Walt Biri will open visitation with the observance of parish prayers and the rosary at 3 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. Visitation will end at 7 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, with the Rev. John Harth officiating.

Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Legion Scholarship Fund.
