Walton H. Roth, 78, 2 Springview Place, died Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center. He was born Feb. 9, 1919, at Illmo, son of Martin F. and Elsie E. Lueddecke Roth. Walton H. Roth, 78, 2 Springview Place, died Friday, Nov. 21, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 9, 1919, at Illmo, son of Martin F. and Elsie E. Lueddecke Roth. He and Dorothy Love McGaugh were married Sept. 5, 1942, in Illmo.

Roth was a 1936 graduate of Illmo High School, and attended Cape Business College.

He was the first executive director of Illmo Housing Authority, and served as city treasurer of Illmo 15 years. He retired from the Bank of Illmo in 1979. He had also been an officer with Illmo Development Corp.

Roth was a member of Eisleben Lutheran Church in Scott City, had been treasurer of the church, was chairman of its finance board 15 years, and was a member of the choir.

He was a member of VFW Post 3838, and a former member of Bank of Illmo Board of Directors.

Roth served with the 82nd Airborne in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received four Bronze Stars and the Good Conduct Medal.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Geoffrey and Timothy Roth of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Diane Wyatt of Bartlett, Tenn.; a brother, Raymond Roth of Cape Girardeau; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Rev. Joel Sarrault officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
