DEXTER -- Funeral for Walter A. Whitmore of Dexter will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at First United Methodist Church. The Revs. Fred Leist and R.L. Hester will officiate. Burial will be in Chalk Bluff Cemetery near Dexter.
Friends may call at Rainey Funeral Home in Dexter from 5-8 p.m. today.
Whitmore, 83, died Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Dexter Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 27, 1915, at Batavia, Iowa, son of Harry and Jessie Campbell Whitmore. He and Lorraine Salter were married Sept. 17, 1939, in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Whitmore had been an assistant plant manager at Swift and Co. He was a member of First United Methodist Church and its Methodist Men. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Carol White of Dexter, Mary Jane Banken of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Kent Whitmore of DesMoines, Iowa; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
