CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Walter G. Tucker, 81, formerly of Chaffee died Feb. 17, 2003, at Sarasota, Fla.
He was born March 6, 1921, at Chaffee to the late Len and Lena Hofler Tucker of Rockview, Mo.
On June 3, 1941, he married Alice Elfrank of Perkins, Mo., who survives.
Walter enjoyed several years in the auto sales industry before engaging in park supervision in the St. Louis region. After retiring and moving to Florida, he continued to work at Wal-Mart as a greeter along with his wife, Alice. While working at the Sarasota Wal-Mart, Walter was recognized by the Wal-Mart corporation for his idea of having a park developed adjacent to the Sarasota superstore. Walter designed and created the small park, which was named in his honor.
Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Ben Salls of Camdenton, Mo.; a son, Joe Tucker and wife, Cheryl, who recently moved back to Osceola, Mo. Grandchildren include two granddaughters, Cherry Salls of St. Louis and Becky Salls of Fenton, Mo.; a great-granddaughter, Brandy Born of Fenton; five sisters, Mary Desemone of St. Louis, Clara Lux of Chicago, Ill.; Lucille Lee, Opal Horn, Rella Hahn and Anna Marie Legrand, all of Chaffee. Also surviving are brothers George and Adolph of California and Leonard (Bill) Tucker of Chaffee.
A sister and two brothers have preceded him in death. He was of the Lutheran faith. There were no services.
