CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Walter Stanley Scott, 68, of Chaffee died Monday, Nov. 5, 2001, at the Chaffee Nursing Center in Chaffee.
He was born on Feb. 21, 1933, in Kay Switch, Ark., son of Jesse Nelson and Lorene Boyd Scott. He and Maxine Burks were married on Nov. 8, 1982, and she survives.
Walter "Scottie" is a retired riverboat captain with Missouri Barge Line. He is a graduate of Charleston High School, where he achieved recognition in football and track. He attended the University of Missouri and also served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Chaffee Masonic Lodge 615.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Jeffrey "Jay" Scott of Julian, N.C.; two daughters, Gaye Lovegrove of Greenville, S.C., and Nikki Bradley of Scott City, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Debbie Graham of Jackson, Mo.; three stepsons, Tim Burks and Tracy Estes of Scott City and Bobby Burks of Chaffee; a brother, Donald Scott of Flint, Mich.; a sister, Helen Blankenship of Mesquite, Texas; 14 grandchildren, Josh and Hannah Scott; Casey and Christopher Lovegrove; Matthew and B.J. Bradley; Samantha, Amy, Stevie and Sidney Burks; Mattie Graham and Jason Ourth; and Travis and Trenton Estes.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Stephanie Graham.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee after 5 p.m. Wednesday, where there will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Jack Bishop officiating. Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery in Chaffee.
