Walter M. "Walt" Pierce, 74, of Jackson passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 8, 1940, in Natoma, Kansas, son of Orvel and Glenna Stokes Pierce. He and Sally Galbraith were married June 7, 1974.

Walt was inducted in the United States Army in 1962 and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War era. He was honorably discharged in 1964.

He worked at Procter & Gamble 31 years, retiring in 2000. Walt was a member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson where he formerly sang in the Chancel Choir and served in many other capacities. Walt was a former member of Cape Jaycees and Jackson Optimist Club where he was a past president and served two years on the state level. Walt made his wife's dream of owning horses come true.

Loving survivors include his wife of 40 years, Sally; two children, Teresa Maybearry and Randy Pierce of Jackson; four grandchildren, Taylor Pierce, Kay-Tee Pierce, BilLeigh Burke and Gavin Pierce; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Donna Metcalf of Nixa, Missouri, and Margie Wineland of Hays, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, four sisters and a great-grandson, Christian Pierce.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 1 p.m. until service time Sunday at New McKendree United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church, with the Rev. Jimmie Corbin officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Evergreen Cemetery in Republic, Missouri.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to New McKendree United Methodist Church or Jackson Optimist Club.
