FARRAR, Mo. -- Walter E. Mangels, 80, of Farrar died Thursday, May 16, 2002, at Jackson Manor in Jackson, Mo.
He was born Feb. 9, 1922, at Farrar, son of Theodore and Lydia Bachmann Mangels. He and Elda C. Kasten were married Nov. 24, 1946. She died Nov. 20, 2001.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church at Farrar and the Salem Senior Servants. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of American Legion Post 133.
Survivors include a son, Lowell Mangels of Friedheim, Mo.; four daughters, Marci Preusser of Altenburg, Mo., Kris Wille of Jackson, Karen Lyon of St. Louis and Patty Callier of Perryville, Mo.; two brothers, Alfred Mangels of Winside, Neb. and Reinhold Mangels of St. Louis; three sisters, Wilma Meinz of Cape Girardeau, Ruth Versemann of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Alice Bachmann of Perryville; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a brother and a sister.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today and from 6:30 to 8:15 a.m. Saturday at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville. There will be an American Legion wake at 7 p.m.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, with visitation at the church from 9 a.m. until service time. The Rev. Robert Schneider will officiate, with burial at the church cemetery. American Legion Post 133 will host a military graveside service.
