LICK CREEK, Ill. -- Walter Truman "Burr Head" Lence, 91, of Lick Creek died Thursday, June 24, 2004, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Marion, Ill.
He was born Aug. 14, 1912, in Anna, Ill., son of George and Nancy Russell Lence. He and Mary Virginia Manus were married May 8, 1943, in Jackson.
Lence had worked for Ado Karraker Chevrolet in Dongola, Ill., and for International and AA Electric. He was a member of United Missionary Baptist Church in Lick Creek and Operating Engineers Local 318 in Marion.
He served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard Lence of Anna, Mervin and George Lence of Lick Creek; a daughter, Rosalee Edwards of Marion; a brother, Frank Lence of Anna, Ill.; three sisters, Alice Martin and Syble Miller of Anna, Kathleen Winn of Saratoga, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna after 6 p.m. Monday.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Tirey officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Hall Cemetery, with full military honors by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 in Anna.
