BENTON, Mo. -- Walter LeGrand, 64, of Benton died Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
He was born Wednesday, Dec. 7, 1949, in Cape Girardeau, to the late Adam and Lorena Christine Scherer Legrand.
Walter attended St. Denis Catholic School and was a 1968 graduate of Kelly High School. He served in the U.S. Navy in Guam, working at the naval hospital as a military police security guard.
He and Mary Jane Daniels were married Saturday, June 15, 1974, at the Nazarene Church in Cape Girardeau.
Walter worked for Florsheim Shoe Co. for 28 years. He was a member of Commerce Baptist Church, American Legion in Benton, VFW Post 5368 in Morley, Missouri, and the Masonic Lodge Chapter No. 342 in Morley.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Mary Jane LeGrand of Benton; brothers Monroe and Anthony LeGrand of Benton, Ralph LeGrand of Cape Girardeau and David LeGrand of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Robert and Vernon LeGrand; sisters Irene Elfrink and Norma Pittman; and niece Debra Wilfong.
A memorial service including military honors and Masonic service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, at the Commerce Baptist Church, with the Rev. Daniel Stevens officiating.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
