WOLF LAKE, Ill. -- - Walter F. Cavness, 77, of Route 1 Wolf Lake, died Saturday Jan. 1, 1994 at his home. He was born June 24, 1916 in Reynoldsville, Ill., the son of Lynn and Verdie Burnett Cavness. He was first married to Margaret Gregory in 1937. He later married Mary Belle Speers in Union County in June of 1963. She preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 1983...

WOLF LAKE, Ill. -- - Walter F. Cavness, 77, of Route 1 Wolf Lake, died Saturday Jan. 1, 1994 at his home. He was born June 24, 1916 in Reynoldsville, Ill., the son of Lynn and Verdie Burnett Cavness.

He was first married to Margaret Gregory in 1937. He later married Mary Belle Speers in Union County in June of 1963. She preceded him in death on Jan. 3, 1983.

He was a farmer most of his life, was a member of the Reynoldsville Baptist Church and the Coonhunters Club in Union County.

Survivors include: three daughters, Donna Stamp of Wolf Lake, Linda Harris of Centralia, and Jane Keene of Chicago; three sons, Jerry Speers of DuQuoin, Roger Cavness of Wolf Lake, and Lynn Cavness of McClure; one brother, Bruce Brown of Wolf Lake; one sister, Karlene Turner of Harrisburg; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son and one daughter.

Funeral services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Norris and Son Funeral Home in Jonesboro. Rev. Jim Stamp will officiate, and burial will follow in the Jonesboro Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Monday.
