MCCLURE, Ill. -- Funeral service for Walter Enke of McClure will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson, Mo. Chaplain Art Kelley will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery at Jackson, with graveside rites by VFW Post 3838 of Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Enke, 73, died Wednesday, April 30, 1997, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born May 7, 1923, in Altenburg, son of W.J. and Lena Wachter Enke. He and Rosemary Jaco were married June 15, 1974.

Enke was a carpenter at Altenburg until joining the U.S. Army in 1944. He later worked in construction for Bud Pierce in East Cape Girardeau, Ill., retiring in 1986.

He was a member of VFW Post 3838.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Paul Griffin Jr. of Scott City, Brad Enke of St. Louis, Bruce Enke of Temple, Texas; a daughter, Brenda Bowen of Jackson; four brothers, Harold Enke of Cape Girardeau, Wilbert Enke of Altenburg, Robert Enke of Columbus, Ga., Calvin Enke of Uniontown; two sisters, Dorothy Miller and Delphine Kasten of St. Louis; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister.
