BLOOMFIELD -- Walter Elbert Shackleford, 82, of Bloomfield, died Wednesday, April 28, 1993, at Ridgeview Nursing Care Center in Malden.

He was born Feb. 17, 1911, at Bernie, son of George A. and Anna Liza Gideon Shackleford. He and Augusta A. Bowers were married Sept. 6, 1986, at Bloomfield.

Shackleford retired as custodian at Poplar Bluff Public Schools, and was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church at Dexter. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Charles Shackleford of Harrisburg, Ill., Benny Shackleford of Kingston, Tenn., Tommy Shackleford of Poplar Bluff; seven daughters, Lillie Amberson of Mesa, Ariz., Mildred Palazzola of Lakeland, Fla., Annetta Haubenchild of Springfield, Ill., Delores McCrum of Halualoa, Hawaii, Rose Young of Dexter, Charlotte Strickland of Longview, Texas, Dianne Billington of Poplar Bluff; a sister, Grace McElyea of Pontiac, Mich.; 21 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, three brothers, three sisters and a grandson.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. The Revs. Gene Partin and Orville Huffman will officiate, with burial in Brown's Chapel Cemetery in Broseley.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
