AMERICA, Ill. -- Walter E. Schnaare, 84, of America, died Monday, Jan. 4, 1993, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

He was born Jan. 8, 1908, in America, son of Rudolph and Clara Studer Schnaare. He married the former Alice Jackson.

Schnaare was a mechanic and was postmaster at America before retiring. He was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Olmsted, and Mounds VFW Post 8891. He was a veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janet Troester of Seattle, Wash., Jeri Greenley of Collinsville; a sister, Ameda Scheiding of Villa Ridge; four grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Barkett Funeral Chapel in Mounds. The Rev. Steven Rasmussen will officiate, with burial in Mound City National Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
