Grand Tower, Ill. -- Walter "Bud" Parker, 67, of Grand Tower died Saturday, April 1, 1995, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.
He was born April 5, 1927, in Pine Bluff, Ark., the son of Ira Virgil and Bertie Mae Williams Parker. He married Minnie Rose Calhoun on March 2, 1983, at Vergennes.
Parker was a resident of Grand Tower since 1972. He was a life member of the Scott City, Mo., V.F.W. Post 6405 and had been a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalman Local 72 for 38 years. He retired from Union Pacific Railroad as a signal maintenance man after 38 years. He served in the U.S. Navy from April 3, 1945, until Aug. 9, 1946, in the Pacific Ocean.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Dr. Lisa Propst of St. Joseph, Mo., and Gina Deutman of Overland Park, Kan.; three stepsons, John S. Calhoun of Dallas, Gary Wayne Calhoun of Cape Girardeau and Jesse J. Calhoun of Modesto, Calif.; three stepdaughters, Kathryn M. Yakushiji of Kobe, Japan, Janette Sue Clark of Marion and Nancy Jo Calhoun of East Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Eloise Parker DeWeese and Bitsy Parker Calaway, both of Pine Bluff, Ark.; and nine stepgrandchildren.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Meredith Funeral Chapel in Grand Tower, where funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Wes Henson will officiate, and burial with military rites conducted by Anna V.F.W. Post 3455 will be at Walker Hill Cemetery in Grand Tower.
