JACKSON -- Walter P. Been, 97, of Webster Groves died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, at LaClede Groves Lutheran Convalescent.
He was born Oct. 19, 1902, in Baldwin, Ill., son of William E. and Grace McDonough Been. He and Esther Tant were married May 23, 1940, in Jackson.
Been was a graduate of Weltner Conservatory of Music and William Jewel College.
He was music director at Esther and Festus high schools. He left teaching in 1942 and accepted a position with Civil Service Commission in St. Louis. He retired in 1970 as district manager with Missouri Department of Education in the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation.
Been moved to Webster Groves three years ago from Jackson. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson and a life member of the National Vocational Association.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Rodney Been of St. Louis; and a granddaughter.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home. The Rev. Grant Gillard will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Fruitland.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until service time.
