PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Waldemar Louis Trapp, 93, died early Tuesday morning, Dec. 11, 2018, at Independence Care Center. After caring for his dear wife, Ada, and her passing in July, 2009, he lived another chapter of life on his own in the family home, then Holiday House Assisted Living in Perryville and finally Independence Care Center. His strong devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Holy Spirit led his life of faith. May he live the everlasting life in heaven which has been prepared for him...

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Waldemar Louis Trapp, 93, died early Tuesday morning, Dec. 11, 2018, at Independence Care Center.

After caring for his dear wife, Ada, and her passing in July, 2009, he lived another chapter of life on his own in the family home, then Holiday House Assisted Living in Perryville and finally Independence Care Center. His strong devotion to the Blessed Mother and the Holy Spirit led his life of faith. May he live the everlasting life in heaven which has been prepared for him.

Trapp was born March 26, 1925, to Hugo and Josephine Meyer of Apple Creek, Missouri. He was baptized and educated in the parish of St. Joseph of Apple Creek.

He was a talented farmer; caretaker of the holy grounds of St. Mary's Seminary and the National Shrine of the Miraculous Medal in Perryville for 21 years; amateur organist/pianist; lover of sacred and classical music, new cars, baseball and bowling; and enjoyed travel for music concerts, sightseeing, cooking and grilling. His common sense of mind, good taste, kindness, charm and jokeful character identified him as a man deserving of many respectful friends and family members. He served in the U.S. Navy on the aircraft carrier Hollandia from 1944 to 1946 during World War II.

He married Ada Schnurbusch on Sept. 16, 1950. They raised three children, Kathy Moll (husband Rick) and Ken (wife Jane), who are twins and reside with their families in Perryville, and Lynn, who resides with his wife Karen in Baltimore. Other survivors are five grandchildren, Tiffany Haertling, Dustin and Ryan Moll, Melissa Erwin and Brandon Trapp; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Harold Schnurbusch of Cape Girardeau; and sister-in-law, Roxie Schnurbusch of Perryville.

Trapp was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Julitta, Luella, Loretta, Bertha and Hilda.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated with song at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville, with the Rev. Richard Wehrmeyer, CM, officiating. Burial follows in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military Honors provided by American Legion Post 143 and U.S. Naval team.

Memorials may be made to the Association of the Miraculous Medal or Crown Hospice.
