JONESBORO, Ill. -- Waconda Walter "Walkie" Casper, 83, of Jonesboro died Saturday, April 14, 2007, at St. Louis University Hospital.

He was born Dec. 25, 1923, near Jonesboro, son of Van and Ella Morris Casper. He and Mary McCommons were married Dec. 14, 1946, in Piggott, Ark.

He had been a construction truck driver, owned Casper Produce 43 years, was a farmer, and also had been a fireman on the railroad.

He served as Ward 3 alderman several years, was a member of Teamsters Local 347, and member and treasurer of Jackson, Union County Port District 23 years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Sandra Williams of Anna, Pamela Casper, Lisa Hicks of Jonesboro; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister and four brothers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Hileman Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Cliff Waller officiating. Burial will be in Jonesboro Cemetery, with military rites by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455 of Anna.
