W. Jean Mabrey, 87, of Cape Girardeau passed away Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at her home.
She was born June 15, 1929 in Lowndes, Missouri, to Alton and Celeslia Sutton Stevenson.
She and the late Cleo W. Mabrey were married Oct. 19, 1946, at Lowndes.
Jean taught sixth-grade students at various schools during her 40-year career. She was a member of the Community Teachers Association and Missouri State Teachers Association and had been a CTA delegate to the State MSTA convention.
Jean was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church and past Matron of the Greenville, Missouri, Chapter Order of Eastern Star.
Jean loved her well-deserved retirement by traveling and playing golf. In fact, she mastered hole No. 11 at the Cape Girardeau Country Club by making three holes-in-one on No. 11.
Many relatives and friends preceded her in death -- too many to list.
Surviving Jean are her many devoted friends; nieces; nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; great-great nieces and great-great nephews; and sister-in-law, Wanda Mabrey.
She will be missed by all who loved her.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. to noon Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at noon Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Conley officiating.
Entombment will be at the Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
