DONGOLA, Ill. -- W. Benton Hancock, 86, of Route 2, Dongola died Monday, Jan. 10, 1994, at the Veteran's Administration Medical Center in Marion.

He was born Sept. 16, 1907, at Union County, the son of Charlie and Nora Elkins Hancock. On April 18, 1946, he married Ethel Dover at Piggott, Ark. She survives of the home.

He was a retired construction worker and a member of the Pentecostal Church of Granite City. He also was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3455 in Anna, the Sheriff's Association, and Operating Engineers Union Local #318 in Harrisburg. He also was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Other survivors include two daughters, Helen Bedwell of Brighton and Donna Swink of Jonesboro, 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Norris and Son Funeral Home in Jonesboro, where funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Randy Morgan will officiate, and burial will be in the Jonesboro Cemetery with military rites by the V.F.W. Post #3445 of Anna.
