MATTHEWS -- Virlon Mae Cooksey, 78, of Matthews, died Tuesday, July 2, 1991, a the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. MATTHEWS -- Virlon Mae Cooksey, 78, of Matthews, died Tuesday, July 2, 1991, a the Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

She was born Nov. 30, 1912, in Selmer, Tenn., daughter of John Edward and Annie Pearl Jones Wyatt.

She married Hubert F.M. Cooksey on March 23, 1935 in Selmer. He preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Smith Street Church of God.

Survivors are two sons, James C. Cooksey, Matthews, and Hubert H. Cooksey, Sikeston; four daughters, Ludene Burns, Jackson, Christine Beeson, Bloomfield, Charlene Burns, Sikeston and Doris Ann Graham, Sikeston; three brothers, Arnold Wyatt, Stafford, Ariz., R.L. Wyatt, Eloy, Ariz., and Luther Wyatt, Alder Point, Calif.; five sisters, Gertrude Crawford, Chicago, Lucille Senciboy, Perkins, Merline Whorton, Morley, Myrtle Driskell, Essex, and Helene Baccus, Sikeston; 23 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, two brothers, one sister and two grandchildren.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Sikeston. Service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Terry Ray will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
