Virginia Tanner

SIKESTON, Mo. -- Virginia Tanner, 82, formerly of Sikeston, died Friday, March 1, 2002, at Bertrand Retirement Center in Bertrand, Mo.

She was born April 19, 1919, at Sikeston, daughter of Harrison William and Lila N. Holder Darter. She and Hurshel W. Tanner were married Sept. 21, 1937, in Sikeston. He died July 1, 1968.

Tanner worked in food service at Sikeston Public Schools 30 years, and was a volunteer grandmother with first and second grade students at Southeast Elementary School. She was a member of Tanner Street Church of God.

Survivors include a son, Thomas Tanner of Charleston, S.C.; a daughter, Shirley Kasting of Sikeston; a brother, Jerry Darter of Fairmont, Mont.; eight grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six brothers.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the chapel. The Rev. Carl Addison will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
