Sally Virginia Johnson, 98, of Cape Girardeau went to Jesus on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at Ratliff Care Center. She was born Feb. 10, 1914, at Cape Girardeau to Joel P. and Mary Jane Mabrey Nunn. She and John X. Johnson were married Thursday, July 14, 1949, at New Orleans. He died Oct. 7, 1971...

Sally Virginia Johnson, 98, of Cape Girardeau went to Jesus on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2012, at Ratliff Care Center.

She was born Feb. 10, 1914, at Cape Girardeau to Joel P. and Mary Jane Mabrey Nunn. She and John X. Johnson were married Thursday, July 14, 1949, at New Orleans. He died Oct. 7, 1971.

Virginia had worked for the Southeast Missourian. She was very active as a Girl Scout leader and an avid card player. She was actively involved with her grandson and his friends. She had many loyal friends.

She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church for more than 90 years.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary J. (Van) White of Cape Girardeau; a grandson, Jordan White of St. Louis; and a nephew, Joel (Dee) Deming of Louisville, Ky.

She was preceded in death her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Gladys Britton and Imogene Deming.

Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. James Sanderson officiating. Friends and well-wishers are invited to attend. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to Centenary United Methodist Church or LaCroix United Methodist Church.
