Virginia Mae Break, 97, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at Lutheran Home. She was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Egypt Mills to Herbert and Barbara Exler Borchelt. She and Calvin Break Sr. were married Sept. 7, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills. Calvin passed away Jan. 2, 2015...

Virginia Mae Break, 97, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at Lutheran Home.

She was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Egypt Mills to Herbert and Barbara Exler Borchelt. She and Calvin Break Sr. were married Sept. 7, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills. Calvin passed away Jan. 2, 2015.

Virginia grew up in Egypt Mills and graduated from College High in 1943.

She thoroughly enjoyed playing piano and organ, playing at Trinity Lutheran-Egypt Mills for several years. Virginia was a stalwart member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau for many years, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid and enjoyed going to Bible classes.

She worked at Missouri Utilities and Union Electric and retired from Ameren UE in the accounting department. Virginia was an avid traveler, making several trips to Germany. She was a lover of animals and worked with several animal-related organizations.

Survivors include a son, Calvin "Bob" Break Jr.; two granddaughters, Erica Smith of Cape Girardeau and Kayla (Kenny) McWay of Frederick, Colorado; three great-grandchildren, Zach Smith and Tallon Smith and Oliver McWay; two great-great-grandchildren, Ivory and Violet Smith; and Radar, her beloved little dog.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Calvin, Virginia was preceded by a son, Dennis Break; a brother, Eugene Borchelt; and a sister, Cecilia Bender.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.

The funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, at the church, with the Rev. Douglas Breite officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.

McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.
