APPLE CREEK, Mo. -- Virgil A. "Doc" Wibbenmeyer, 89, of Apple Creek died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born July 1, 1927, in Apple Creek, son of John and Barbara Buchheit Wibbenmeyer. He and Dorothy B. Rellergert were married Dec. 29, 1951. She preceded him in death July 13, 2015...

APPLE CREEK, Mo. -- Virgil A. "Doc" Wibbenmeyer, 89, of Apple Creek died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2016, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 1, 1927, in Apple Creek, son of John and Barbara Buchheit Wibbenmeyer. He and Dorothy B. Rellergert were married Dec. 29, 1951. She preceded him in death July 13, 2015.

He retired from Sabreliner Corp. in 1995. He was a U.S. Army Korean War veteran. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Men's Organization in Apple Creek, American Legion Post 133, VFW Post 4282 and Knights of Columbus Council 1263.

Survivors include four sons and one daughter, Wayne (Christy) Wibbenmeyer of St. Louis, Gary (Susan) Wibbenmeyer of Cape Girardeau and Kathy (Dave) Schumer, Rick (Louise) Wibbenmeyer and Terry (Lisa) Wibbenmeyer, all of Perryville; a sister, Margaret Ernst of Biehle, Missouri; 14 grandchildren, Corinne, T.J., Andrew, Kaitlin, Amy, John, Maria, Veronica, Luke, Tyler and Elizabeth Wibbenmeyer, Kristen Renner, Lauren and Tim Schumer; and three great-grandchildren, Brynn, Mila and Levi Renner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; three brothers, Leonard, Norbert and Joseph Wibbenmeyer; four sisters, Mary, Julitta, Rita, Lucille; and a grandson, Nathan.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 6:30 to 9:15 a.m. Monday at Young and Sons Funeral Home.

He then will be taken to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Apple Creek for a funeral Mass at 10 a.m., with the Revs. Ed Stanger and Jim French con-celebrating. Burial will be in St. Michael Cemetery, with military graveside rite provided by VFW Post 4282 and Missouri Delta Team.

Memorials are preferred to St. Joseph Catholic Church, Nathan Wibbenmeyer Scholarship Fund at Notre Dame Regional High School in Cape Girardeau or the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
