MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Virgil L. Parsons, 77, of Hermann, Mo., formerly of Marble Hill, died Sunday, May 12, 2002, at Capitol Regional Medical Center in Jefferson City, Mo.
He was born Sept. 7, 1924, in the Trace Creek community near Glen Allen, Mo., son of Virgil L. and Gertrude Alexander Parsons. He and Juanita I. Dowd were married Sept. 18, 1946, in Piggott, Ark.
Parsons owned and operated sawmills in Missouri and Illinois. He was a member of Bay American Legion Post at Hermann, and of Trowell Lodge 440 at Marble Hill.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Virgil Parsons III of Columbia, Mo., Steve Parsons of Washington, Mo., Ted Parsons of Marble Hill, Jon Parsons of Mount Sterling, Ill., and Louis Parsons of Beaufort, Mo.
Also surviving are four daughters, Sharon Parsons of West Palm Beach, Fla., Sheila Rhodes of Marble Hill, Debra Lusk of Cape Girardeau, Mary Hubbard of Royal Palm Beach, Fla.; two sisters, Elsie Seabaugh of Cape Girardeau, June Gallagher of Broken Arrow, Okla.; 21 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
Friends may call at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill from 4 to 8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at noon Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. W.D. Snyder officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery near Bessville, Mo.
