MOREHOUSE -- Funeral for Virgil L. Oliver, formerly of Morehouse, will be held at 2 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. The Rev. Kelley Grubbs will officiate. Burial will be in Matthews Cemetery at Matthews.

Oliver, 72, died Thursday, April 6, 2000, at Hunter Acres Caring Center in Sikeston.

He was born Sept. 1, 1927, at Canalou, son of Roy and Dora Parrish Oliver. He and Estelle Nimmo were married March 21, 1945, at New Madrid.

Oliver had been a mechanic 16 years at McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis and worked on the Gemini Space Project. He moved to Morehouse in 1964 and owned and operated Oliver's Market.

He was a member of Murray Lane Baptist Church, American Legion Post 114, Masonic Lodge 310, Order of Eastern Star, and National Rifle Association.

Oliver served in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Ron Oliver of House Springs; two daughters, Gerri Norton of High Ridge, Blanch Breeden of Sikeston; two sisters, Marie Talley of Kansas City, Beulah Johnson of Malden; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother.
