EAST PRAIRIE -- Funeral service for Virgil Lee Moore of East Prairie will be held at 11 a.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel. The Revs. Jack Bishop and Raymond Grimes will officiate, with burial in East Prairie Memorial Park.

Moore, 73, died Sunday, July 18, 1993, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born March 30, 1920, in Hardeman County, Tenn., son of James Walter and Caldonia Prior Wilson Moore. He and Mildred Lynese Adams were married Oct. 1, 1941, in New Madrid.

Moore was owner/operator of Moore's Grocery until retiring in 1981. He was an ordained deacon 20 years at Anniston Southern Baptist Church, and was currently a member of Barnes Ridge Southern Baptist Church.

He was voted into the Southeast Missouri Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992, after many years of managing and supporting amateur baseball in Mississippi County.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Larry Moore of Charleston, Jerry Moore of Festus, Gary Moore of East Prairie; a daughter, Darlene Cave of East Prairie; three brothers, James, Anderson and Albert Moore of East Prairie; three sisters, Mamie Hendrix of Morley, Mattie Williams of Waterloo, Ill., Bessie Hendrix of East Prairie; six grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
