Virgil Chirnside

ST. LOUIS -- Virgil D. Chirnside, 87, of St. Louis, formerly of Cape Girardeau, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at his home.

He was born May 7, 1929, in Fulton, Missouri.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He and Joyce Covington were married Sept. 30, 1950, in Jefferson City, Missouri.

Virgil was a graduate of the University Missouri-Columbia. He retired as Southeast Missouri district manager of Ameren Missouri, after 35 years of dedicated service.

For over 50 years he was an active member of First Baptist Church of Cape Girardeau, serving as deacon and Sunday school teacher. He showed his passion for the community as a member of the Southeast Hospital board, Southeast Missouri State University Board of Regents, Cape County Park Board, Cape Girardeau Benevolence Association, the Tower Club, president of the Cape Girardeau Country Club and president of the Evening Optimist Club.

Survivors include his wife of nearly 66 years, Joyce Chirnside of St. Louis; daughters, Lisa (William) Stover of Glendale, Missouri, Lori (David) Sullivan of San Francisco and Linda (Tim) Dudenhoeffer of Glendale; grandchildren, Allie and Haley Dudenhoeffer of Saint Louis; and brothers, Donald Chirnside of Maryland Heights, Missouri, and Bruce (Jean) Chirnside of Kansas City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Calvin Chirnside; and sister-in-law, JoAnne Chirnside.

Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
