WILSON CITY -- Virgie Mae Powell, 85, of Wilson City died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston. She was born May 14, 1914, in Columbus, Miss., daughter of Gideon and Leonda Walker. Powell was a member of Sanders Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Wyatt, and served on its stewardess and church boards...

WILSON CITY -- Virgie Mae Powell, 85, of Wilson City died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

She was born May 14, 1914, in Columbus, Miss., daughter of Gideon and Leonda Walker.

Powell was a member of Sanders Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Wyatt, and served on its stewardess and church boards.

Survivors include four sons, Eugene Powell of Harvey, Ill., J.C. Powell of Chicago, Marshall Powell of Wilson City, W.H. Hillard of Chicago Heights, Ill.; five daughters, Mildred Chatman of Lawrenceville, Ga., Dorothy Levi of Buena Park, Calif., Marjorie Bias of Evanston, Ill., Betty Powell of Harvey, and Bernice Frazier of Wilson City.

Also surviving is a brother, Jerry Williams of Lima, Ohio; a sister, Arnick Williams of Plano, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Ollie Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Wilson City from 6-7 p.m. Friday.

Funeral will be at the church at noon Saturday. The Rev. Terry McKee will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery at Charleston.

Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston is in charge of arrangements.
