SCOTT CITY -- Virble Al Simms, 69, of Scott City, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 1994, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 18, 1924, in Ridgely, Tenn., son of Gus and Mary Upchurch Simms. He and Mary Hoover were married May 27, 1952, in Piggott, Ark.
Simms was a deckhand on a riverboat with Dravo Co. of St. Louis. He attended Commerce Baptist Church at Commerce.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary Simms of Bernie, Alfred Kurtz of Scott City; four daughters, Mary Davis, Helen Scheper and Pam Howell of Scott City, Linda Pattengill of Benton; a brother, J.T. Simms of Cape Girardeau; 15 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two grandchildren.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Scott City after 5 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dave Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery.
