Violet M. Wolfe, 87, of Jackson died Thursday, June 30, 2005, in Jackson.

She was born March 14, 1918, in Hammonton, N.J., daughter of Elias and Grace Hoping Cossaboon. She and Jake Wolfe were married in September 1950 in Salzburg, Austria. He died in 1974.

On Aug. 30, 1944, Wolfe was inducted into the U.S. Army and served during World War II. She was honorably discharged on Aug. 7, 1952, as a sergeant.

Wolfe worked for the civil service her entire career at Kecoughtan Veteran Hospital in Hampton, Va. After retirement, she worked 23 years as a volunteer teacher for the Southern Baptists Missionary Corps in Tucson, Ariz.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Perryville, Mo., and Memorial Baptist Church in Hampton, Va.

Survivors include a son, Jay Wolfe of Perryville; a brother, Owen Cossaboon of Okeechobee, Fla.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother and sister.

Graveside service will be today at 1 p.m. at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo., with the Rev. Jay D. Wolfe officiating. Graveside military honors will be presented.

McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
