SIKESTON, Mo. -- Violet Earline Shelby, 78, of Sikeston died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

She was born April 8, 1922, in Sikeston, daughter of Walter "Dick" and Ethel Duke Nelson. She and Cecil R. Shelby were married July 12, 1941, in New Madrid, Mo.

She was a member of Murray Lane Baptist Church in Sikeston.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Mitchell Shelby of Cape Girardeau and Terry Shelby of Sikeston; a daughter, Sherry Phillips of New Madrid; two brothers, Spurlin "Dick" Nelson and Wallace "Cotton" Nelson, both of Sikeston; two sisters, Elsie Wyatt of Sikeston and Wanda Scarbrough of Marietta, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Kelley Grubbs will officiate, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
