DEXTER, Mo. -- Funeral for Violet Marie Leathers of California will be held at 1 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter. The Rev. Doyle Corlew will officiate. Burial will be in Dexter Cemetery.

Leathers, 70, died Saturday, April 14, 2001, at Sutter General Hospital in Sacramento, Calif.

She was born Feb. 10, 1931, in Benton Harbor, Mich., daughter of Claude and Hilannalaura Walters Swafford. She married Billy Leathers at Dexter. He died Sept. 8, 1978.

Leathers lived in the Dexter and Bloomfield areas from 1955 until moving to California in 1999. She had worked at International Hat Co. and Brown Shoe Co.

Survivors include two daughters, Susan Brixey of Ogden, Utah, Diane Kilkenny of Springdale, Ark., two sons, James Vaughn Jr. of Essex, Mo., Alan Vaughn of Springdale; a sister, Glendora Gage of Sacramento; a half sister, Darlene Moss of Flint, Mich.; a half brother, James Monroe of Sacramento; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
