SIKESTON -- Violet Ayers, 81, of Sikeston died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born Oct. 29, 1915, in New Madrid County, daughter of James and Carnelia Kindred Wilburn. She and Thomas Wylie Ayers Jr. were married Jan. 31, 1936, in New Madrid. He died July 3, 1995...

SIKESTON -- Violet Ayers, 81, of Sikeston died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Oct. 29, 1915, in New Madrid County, daughter of James and Carnelia Kindred Wilburn. She and Thomas Wylie Ayers Jr. were married Jan. 31, 1936, in New Madrid. He died July 3, 1995.

Ayers was a member of North Acres General Baptist Church.

Survivors include four sons, Buford and Ralph Ayers of Sikeston, Eugene Ayers of St. Charles, David Ayers of Maplewood; a daughter, Melba Cannon of Farmington; three sisters, Bess Dodson of Puxico, Ruth Parker of Sikeston, Daisy Crandell of Monmouth, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel, with the Rev. James Trotter officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
