SIKESTON - Viola L. Statler, 79, of Sikeston, died Saturday May 11, 1991, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
She was born Aug. 13, 1911, in Alliance to the late Frank and Etta Robinson Fadler.
She was a high school teacher for 45 years, teaching English and journalism from 1952 to 1977.
She was a member and worker of the Concordia Lutheran Church in Sikeston; president of the SEMO Retired Teachers Association; and a member of the Missouri Teachers Association and the Sikeston Business and Professional Women's Club.
In 1980, she received the southeast district's Meritorious Service Award from the Missouri Teachers Association. In 1983, she was chosen as Sikeston Woman of the Year.
On June 22, 1941, she married Tony E. Statler, who survives. Also surviving are one sister, Velma Seabaugh of St. Louis, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Three brothers preceded her in death.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Monday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. The body will be moved at noon Tuesday to Concordia Lutheran Church, where services will be held at 2 p.m.
The Rev. Robert Kriete will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sikeston.
