Vincent Schwartz

Vincent Frederick Schwartz, 90, of Jackson died Sunday, April 24, 2011, at his home.

He was born Feb. 16, 1921, in St. Louis to Joseph and Elizabeth Schaefer Schwartz. He and Geneva M. Hitt were married June 25, 1942. She died Nov. 30, 1998.

Vincent served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in North Africa and France.

After the war he worked for Midwest Dairy, Superior Electric and Tucker Truck Lines. He later worked as a carpenter for Cape Realty and Wunderlich Realty in Cape Girardeau. He also farmed in the Whitewater and Jackson area.

He was a life member and past commander of Altenthal-Joerns Post 158 American Legion of Jackson and a charter member of its Honor Guard Team. He was also a life member of VFW Post 3838 of Cape Girardeau and of Chapter 16 DAV of Cape. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council No. 1111 of Cape and a 4th degree member of Immaculate Conception Assembly of Jackson. He was a member of the Cape Girardeau fair board and of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

He enjoyed spending time hunting, fishing and camping with his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by a son, Fredric (Carolyn) Schwartz of Jackson; four daughters, Victoria (Leroy) Moore and Cynthia (Lee) Bollinger, both of Millersville, Jennifer Sharp of Jackson, Rebecca Scharenborg of Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters-in-law, Edna Schwartz of Cape Girardeau, Geraldine Crandell of Cahokia, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and special friend Dora Mantel of Jackson and her family.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Roy; and three sisters, Cecilia, Gertrude and Vivian.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson with an American Legion Honor Guard service at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Church in Jackson with the Rev. John Hearth officiating.

Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau with full military honors.
