Vince Ventres, 86, of Jackson passed away Monday, April 20, 2020, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 6, 1933, in Whitewater to the late Rev. George L. and Myrtle Jackson Ventres.
Vince was a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. He served his country honorably during the Korean War in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Donner. He worked for several shoe stores and became lead sales manager for the Jarmine and Florsheim Shoe companies, having an office in the Empire State Building. Later, he owned and operated his own carpet and flooring business in Victorville, California. He retired when working at a carpet and flooring business in Florida.
Vince was active in the Masons and Shriners, receiving recognition for being a 50-year member in 2009. He enjoyed reading and studying his Bible, then sitting at his computer typing in his "Thots" to share with family and friends by email.
Vince is survived by two daughters, Denise Rhea Rodden of Hawaii and Vicki Ventres of Alaska; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, David Ventres; sisters, Lola Schearf, Virginia Baker, Bernetha McCann, Naomi Akers and Yvonne Barnhart; brothers, George C. "Bud" and Larry Ventres; and a grandson, Jason Keith Rodden.
He will be laid to rest with other relatives in Stroderville Cemetery at Whitewater at a later date.
