Victoria Yvonne Quatmann, S.L., 62, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 16, 2004, on the Alto Plano near Cochabamba, Bolivia, South America.

She was born June 25, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Joseph Henry and Marian Haas Quatmann. She attended St. Vincent Grade School and Notre Dame High School. She was received into the order of Sisters of Loretto in Nerinx, Ky., May 31, 1960.

Since entering the Sisters of Loretto, Vicki served many people in many places. She was a teacher and principal at Loretto Academy in Kansas City, Mo., and coordinator and fund raiser for Save Our Cumberland Mountains in Lake City, Tenn., and a fund-raising instructor for organizations through the Southern Empowerment Project.

During the past three years Vicki worked in the missionary field with the indigenous people of the high plains in Bolivia, forming women's knitting cooperatives, teaching leadership classes, seeking grants to provide clean drinking water and establishing a bakery.

The following is part of a testimonial written for Vicki: "The foreign woman entered into this mysterious world to which she was drawn without knowing that there, God was waiting for her, in the holy land of the Incas ... where she would find peace for her soul."
