LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Victor George Vandeven, 87, of Leopold died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born April 3, 1920, at Leopold, son of Jacob and Rosina Elfrink Vandeven. He and Gertrude C. "Gertie" Jansen were married Sept. 20, 1945, at Leopold.

Vandeven was a farmer. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, a 3rd Degree member of St. Isadore Knights of Columbus Council 5898, a 4th Degree member of St. Isadore 1740, and a member of Southeast Missouri Horse Shoe Pitchers Association Hall of Fame.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Norbert and Phillip Vandeven of Marble Hill, Mo., Darrel Vandeven of Whitewater; two daughters, Carol Ann Vangennip of Marble Hill, Connie Nussbaum of Leopold; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill. Parish prayers and Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7:15.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Bill Huggins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
