Victor Walter Nahodil, 97, of Garwood, Missouri, departed this life Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, with his family by his side.
He was born April 8, 1918, in St. Louis to Frank and Paula Haack-Wirtz Nahodil. He and Omalee Middleton were married Sept. 2, 1941, in Van Buren, Missouri. She preceded him in death March 22, 2000.
Victor was a lifelong resident of Garwood, where he was a member of Yount Memorial Baptist Church and a former member of Piedmont, Missouri, VFW.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II. He received a Purple Heart.
Later in life he was a self-employed timber worker. He was a loving family man who enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, playing poker and rummy, hunting moles and watching birds.
Survivors include a son, Victor Eugene Nahodil (Sheryl) of Indiana; two daughters, Betty Jean Long (Everett) of Van Buren and Juanita Sanders-Mcquay (Scott) of Cape Girardeau; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and many other relatives and friends who mourn his passing.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Rosemary Nahodil and Ruth Ann Price; a brother, Paul Nahodil; two stepbrothers, John and Eugene Wirtz; a stepsister, Mary Schierhoff; two grandsons, Brad Long and Jordan Hardwick; and a great-grandson, Seth Foster.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at McSpadden Funeral Home in Van Buren.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Yount Memorial Cemetery in Garwood.
