VERNON W. WILLIFORD

PADUCAH, Ky. -- Vernon William Williford, 76, of Bardwell, Ky., formerly of Mississippi County, died Saturday, June 14, 1997, at the Western Baptist Hospital in Paducah.

He was born Aug. 29, 1920, at Malden, Mo., a son of Oliver and Nellie Hicks Williford. He and Mary Belle Kidd were married on March 13, 1956. She survives.

Williford was retired from the Charleston Department of Public Safety in 1986 where he worked for 21 years. He was a member of the Elm Street Baptist Church.

Survivors include five sons, Dale Williford of Flowood, Miss., Dennis Williford of North Carolina and Winston Williford, of Delta, Mo., Roy Woodruff of Bridgeport, Texas, and Tommy Woodruff of Bardwell; three daughters, Joyce Williford of Granite City, Ill., Phyllis Woodruff Wright of Sheboygan, Wis., and Cynthia Nell Woodruff Moser of Bardwell; a sister, Virginia Clubbs of East Prairie, Mo.; 24 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

A son and brother preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. Jack Hargraves officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston, Mo.
