TAMMS, Ill. -- Vernon Vercher, 83, of Tamms died Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Jan. 1, 1916, in Merryville, La., son of Willie and Mary Vercher. He first married Jennie, then Alberta, and also Geraldine, all of whom preceded him in death.
Vercher was a butcher with Morrell Meats mmore than 20 years in Chicago. After retiring he moved to Tamms. He was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Survivors include five daughters, Peggy Braxton of Delaware, Maxine Moody and Mildred Timms of Chicago, Sherry Massie of Cape Girardeau, Cheryl Vercher of Tamms; three stepdaughters, Shiela Mack, Sharon Wilkins, Donna Spence; a stepson, Donnie Spence; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; and a great-stepgrandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Second Baptist Church, with the Rev. Edward Ballard officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Heights Memorial Park at Mounds.
Friends may call Wednesday at the church from 11 a.m. until service time.
