Vernon Nicholas Schlosser, 83, of Scott City died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 25, 1926, to Ed and Ida Westrich Schlosser in Illmo. He married Revella Welter on July 17, 1947, in Kelso, Mo.

Schlosser was a lifetime farmer. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, past commander of VFW Post 6407 of Scott City and a member of Clifford-Wilson-Taylor VFW Post 3838 of Cape Girardeau.

He was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in Okinawa.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Gary (Becky) Schlosser of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Patricia (John) Jenkins of Lake Ozark, Mo., Brenda (Chuck) Morrison of Locust Grove, Va.; a sister, Glenda (Elmer) Kenkel of Scott City; three grandchildren, Scott Schlosser of St. Charles, Mo., Jill McIntosch of Ashland, Mo., Carisa Barnhill of St. Louis; five stepgrandchildren, Alicia, John, Curt, Joe and Brenda; four great-grandchildren; and 11 great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso. Parish prayer service will be at 6:30.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin as celebrant. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery with full military honors.

Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
