SIKESTON -- Funeral service for James Vernon Morris of Sikeston will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Larry Emerson will officiate, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
Morris, 60 years old, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 1990, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.
He was born June 27, 1930, at Sikeston, son of Jess Collian and Lula Mae Beaird Morris. He and the former Dorothy Nell Lindsey were married Aug. 17, 1951, in Piggott, Ark.
Morris was employed at Sikeston Power Plant, where he was fire safety control officer. He was a former fire chief, retiring in 1983 from Sikeston Fire Department. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and Sikeston Volunteer Fire Department.
He worked 25 years at Mitchell-Sharp Chevrolet Co. Morris served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Kay Dover of Bell City, Diana Thomure of New Madrid, Kim Morris of Sikeston; a brother, Merlin Morris of Evansville, Ind.; two sisters, Edith Launius of Sikeston, Ruth Hendrix of Poplar Bluff, and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
