CHARLESTON -- Vernon E. Nolen, 83, Charleston Route 3, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 1994, at East Prairie Nursing Center.

He was born Oct. 10, 1910, at Crosno, son of William and Dury Duty Nolen. He and Georgia Louise Parr were married Oct. 22, 1943. She died May 12, 1953.

Nolen was a retired farmer, and member of Anniston Baptist Church.

Survivors include five sons, Harold Nolan of Caruthersville, Bobby Nolen of Walkerville, W. Va., Billy Nolen of Zalma, Jimmy Nolen of Sikeston, Tommy Nolen of East Prairie; three daughters, Sue Bates of Irving, Texas, Carol Bowman of Poplar Bluff, Peggy Dixon, Charleston Route 3; a brother, Earl Nolen of Anniston; seven sisters, Earlene Riley, Bernice Culp and Myrtle Nolen of East Prairie, Modest Grider of Benton, Ky., Lillian Cowser of Charleston, Beatrice Dorack and Ruth Scott of St. Louis; 18 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Shelby Funeral Chapel in East Prairie. Burl Britt and Mike Johnson will officiate, with burial in Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
