SCOTT CITY -- Funeral service for Vernon N. Daniels of Scott City will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. The Rev. William Dickey will officiate, with burial in Lightner Cemetery.
Friends may call at the chapel after 5 p.m. today.
Daniels, 83, died Sunday, Feb. 23, 1997, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born March 9, 1913, in Advance, son of William Melton and Flora Jane Smith Daniels. He and Gertrude Willie Baker were married Oct. 27, 1934. She died March 28, 1985.
Daniels had been a dredge engineer with U.S. Corps of Engineers. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a son, Mike Daniels of Scott City; two daughters, Judy Ross of Rolla, Pat Ferguson of Scott City; two sisters, Ada Choate of Bertrand, Ida Uthoff of Charleston; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by eight brothers, two sisters, and a great-grandchild.
