BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Vernon Ray Abernathy Sr., 71, of Dexter, Mo., died Friday, July 20, 2001.
He was born March 25, 1930, at Bernie, Mo., son of Clarence and Mary Lawson Abernathy.
Abernathy spent most of his life in St. Louis, where he was a machinist for Nixdorff-Krein Manufacturing Co. He lived in Dexter since 1980. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Dexter.
He married Margaret Cowgar on March 7, 1953. She died June 26, 1994.
Survivors include a son, Vernon Abernathy Jr. of Dexter; a brother, Roy Abernathy of Marble Hill, Mo.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, with the Rev. Kieth Garland officiating. Burial will be in the North Antioch Cemetery at Bloomfield.
