MATTHEWS -- Vernie Wayne Deen, 59, Matthews Route 1, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 1993, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

He was born Aug. 29, 1934, at Malden, son of Vernie Sage and Geneva Lois Green Deen. He and Betty Daniel were married Oct. 13, 1958, at Kennett.

Deen was self-employed in plumbing, heating and air conditioning. He was a member of First Christian Church, was a leader with Boy Scout Troop 53 at Matthews from 1981-87, and was a Little League baseball coach from 1974-83.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Gary Deen of Canalou, Robert Deen of the home, Christopher Deen of Matthews; two daughters, Jeri Gammons of Camden, Connie Deen of the home; a brother, Bud Deen of Florissant; two sisters, Betty Higgins of Malden, Lois Harris of Gideon, and five grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. The Rev. Don Heitman will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. today.
